After eating on the veranda at the Merthyr Bowls Club looking across the Brisbane River I've vowed to never again dine at Brisbane restaurants which add on a "tariiff" for their riverside location and think that their location justifies poor service. The Merthyr Bowls Club is exactly the opposite. It serves extremely generous and high quality club fare at prices that you would swear they were operating at a loss. The wine menu is quite small but has some hidden gems, such as the excellent Mother's Ruin Cabernet Sauvignon from First Drop Wines that can be bought from only one distributor in Brisbane and which the Merthyr Bowls Club will serve to your table at the merest fraction above the cellardoor price.
